It is an evergreen tree native to tropical Asia and widely grown throughout the Wetland tropics for its large fruits and durable wood. The green, unripe fruit is often cooked as a vegetable, whereas the ripe, brown fruit is savored fresh due to its mildly acidic yet mildly bland pulp encasing the seeds. The seeds are cooked and eaten locally. Using it in every stage is the biggest benefit for jackfruit. Jackfruit holds the status of a fundamental food crop in Bangladesh.
